Hatley High is a 2003 independent comedy film directed by Phil Price and written by Myles Hainsworth.[1] It was shown at various film festivals from September 2003 to 2005 including the San Diego Film Festival and the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.

Plot

Hatley High is about an 18-year-old boy named Tommy (Nicholas Wright) and his father (Robert Jadah) who after the death of Tommy's mother move to her hometown. Unknown to them is that Tommy's mother was a chess superstar back home. The entire town is obsessed with the game and the school's 'jocks' are the chess team.

Through romance with a chess cheerleader (Rachelle Lefevre) and rivalry with the team captain (James A. Woods), Tommy uses his natural and apparently inherited talents for chess to help the school win the chess match against their rivals, the Russians.

Awards

The film won two awards at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival; "Best Director" for Phil Price, and "Best Screenplay" for Myles Hainsworth.[2]
